The previous generation (Akiko Takeuchi) had shown me some aspects of dyeing, and with the desire to pass on the greatness of Awa indigo while remaining in Tokushima, I studied under Shoji Watanabe of Gujo Hachiman in 1973. I established the natural alkaline fermentation indigo dyeing method and received the designation as a Tokushima Prefecture Intangible Cultural Asset in 1982. I am determined to continue working hard to preserve my late mother-in-law's many works and her legacy, and to ensure her spirit lives on in the future.
