Drawn into the charm of Awa indigo dyeing through an indigo dyeing experience, Mr. Kondo has been dedicated to the craft for over 20 years. "I feel like I've finally reached the true color of Awa indigo," he says. "It's that feeling when indigo shines. To achieve a pure, clear indigo without any murkiness, I don't use any color fixatives, and I dye using traditional methods." Especially with silk, since the fabric can be damaged when the indigo liquid becomes old, he insists on using only fresh dye for the process. The silk scarves dyed with the utmost care are a perfect natural indigo color—neither too dark nor too light. "When customers tell me, 'This indigo color is my favorite, the indigo is beautiful,' I truly feel happy."
